Privacy Policy

1. Information we collect

We aim to collect as little as possible, and the Site is deliberately built so that its main feature needs no personal information at all. What is involved falls into two groups.

Information you choose to give us

There is no account system, so nothing is required to use the generator. You only provide information if you actively send it:

• Contact messages. If you email us or use the contact form, we receive your name, your email address, and whatever you write in the message. We use it to reply, and nothing else.
• Bug and compatibility reports. These often include a device model, operating system version, or app name. That information is technical rather than personal, and is used to reproduce and fix the problem.

We do not add contact details to a mailing list, and we do not sell, rent, or trade them.

Information collected automatically

As with most websites, some technical information is received automatically when you visit — by us and by the service providers described below. This typically includes:

• Your approximate location, derived from your IP address (usually accurate only to city or region level);
• Your browser type and version, operating system, and device type;
• Which pages you viewed, how long you stayed, and which links you followed;
• The website or search engine that referred you to the Site.

This is standard analytics and advertising data. It is not used to build a personal profile of you by us, and we do not attempt to identify individual visitors from it.

2. The generator and the text you type

This is the section most people care about, so it is stated as directly as possible.

The font generator is client-side. Every conversion happens inside your own browser using JavaScript that was downloaded with the page. When you type a word and it appears in 285 styles, no request is made to a server to produce that result. The text is transformed on your device, by your device.

The practical consequences are worth spelling out:

• We never receive your text. Whatever you type — a name, a bio, a private message you are styling — does not leave your browser. It is not transmitted, not logged, and not stored.
• We cannot retrieve it. Because it is never sent, there is nothing on our side to look up, hand over, or lose in a breach.
• It disappears when you leave. Closing or refreshing the page clears the input. Nothing about the content of your text persists.
• The generator works offline. Once the page has loaded, you can disconnect from the internet and it continues to function — a useful way to verify for yourself that no data is being sent.

3. Browser storage we use

The Site uses your browser’s local storage for a small number of convenience features. Local storage is a standard browser mechanism that saves data on your own device. It is not a cookie, it is not transmitted to us, and it is not readable by other websites.

Exactly three things are stored:

• Your favourites. Styles you mark as favourites, so they are still there next time you visit.
• Your recent styles. The last ten styles you copied, which expire automatically after seven days.
• Your theme preference. Whether you chose light or dark mode.

All three exist purely to make the Site more pleasant to return to. None of them contain the text you typed, none are used for tracking or advertising, and none are visible to us. You can delete them at any time by clearing your browser’s site data, and the Site will continue to work normally with the defaults restored.

4. How we use information

The limited information we do receive is used to:

• Operate, maintain, and improve the Site, its generator, and its content;
• Understand in aggregate how visitors use the Site — which styles are popular, which pages people reach, where the Site is slow;
• Investigate and fix technical faults, including rendering problems reported on specific devices;
• Display advertising, which is what keeps the Site free to use;
• Reply to messages you send us; and
• Detect, prevent, and deal with abuse, spam, or misuse of the Site.

We do not use your information to make automated decisions about you, and we do not profile visitors ourselves.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device. We and our partners use cookies and similar technologies for a few distinct purposes, and it is worth separating them because they are not equivalent:

• Essential. Needed for the Site to load and function correctly and for basic security.
• Analytics. Used to count visits and understand which pages are useful. These are optional.
• Advertising. Set by Google and other advertising partners to select and measure the ads you see. These are optional.

Where the law requires it — for example under the GDPR in the EU and the UK — you will be asked for consent before any non-essential cookie is placed, and you can change or withdraw that choice at any time. Our Cookie Policy Cookie settings sets out the categories in more detail and explains how to control them.

6. Google AdSense and third-party advertising

This Site is free, and advertising is what pays for it. Ads are served by Google through the Google AdSense service, and potentially by other third-party advertising partners. In connection with this:

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this Site and to other websites.
• Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this Site and other sites on the internet.
• You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings.
• You can opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.eu.

We do not control the cookies these third parties set, and their handling of your information is governed by their own privacy policies rather than this one. You can review Google’s practices at policies.google.com/privacy, and how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Opting out of personalised advertising does not remove ads. It means the ads you see are selected without using your browsing history, and are generally less relevant as a result.

7. Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how the Site is used. It reports in aggregate — how many people visited a page, which country they came from, how long they stayed, whether the page loaded quickly. We use it to decide which styles deserve their own generator and which pages need fixing.

Google Analytics sets its own cookies and processes data on Google’s infrastructure under Google’s privacy policy. We do not use it to identify individual visitors, and we never combine analytics data with the contents of the generator, because the generator produces no data to combine.

If you would rather not be included at all, Google publishes a browser opt-out add-on that blocks Google Analytics across every site you visit.

8. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information — for example under the GDPR in the European Union and the United Kingdom, or the CCPA and CPRA in California. These commonly include the right to access the information held about you, to correct it, to have it deleted, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to receive a copy in a portable format.

Because this Site holds no accounts and stores none of the text you enter, the personal information we hold about any individual visitor is usually nothing at all. The main exception is an email you have sent us, which sits in an ordinary inbox. If you would like that deleted, ask and it will be.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising in the sense those terms are used in California law. Independently of us, you can:

• Control or block cookies through your browser settings;
• Use the advertising opt-out links in section 6 to limit personalised ads;
• Use the Google Analytics opt-out add-on in section 7;
• Clear your browser’s site data to remove the favourites, recents, and theme preference described in section 3.

To make a request or ask a question, contact us using the details in section 13. We respond as required by the law that applies to you.

9. Data retention and security

There is very little to retain. The text you type is never received, so there is no retention period for it. Email correspondence is kept only as long as needed to deal with the matter it concerns. Analytics and advertising data are retained by Google according to Google’s own retention settings and policies, not ours.

The Site is served over an encrypted HTTPS connection. That said, no method of transmission or storage on the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. The strongest protection here is structural rather than technical: information that is never collected cannot be exposed.

10. Children’s privacy

This Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and it will be deleted promptly.

11. International visitors

The Site is available worldwide and is used from many countries. The service providers described in this policy — principally Google — operate global infrastructure, so information they collect may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States. Those transfers are governed by the providers’ own safeguards and privacy policies.

12. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time — for example if we add a feature, change an analytics provider, or need to reflect a change in the law. When that happens, the “Last updated” date at the top of this page is revised. Significant changes will be made obvious rather than slipped in quietly. Continuing to use the Site after an update means you accept the revised policy, so it is worth checking this page occasionally.
